Intro to Creative Writing: Open Forms

This course is a hybrid: part workshop of student writing and part seminar for discussing contemporary works of poetry and prose. Genres such as fiction, poetry, and various forms of non-fiction will be approached with openness and students will be able to explore whichever types of writing call to them. The focus of this class is on reading literature through the eyes of the writer rather than the critic, so assignments will consist of weekly readings, workshops, short personal response papers, and a final portfolio of your creative work. Experienced and novice creative writers are welcome to join! You will also have the opportunity to attend readings by acclaimed visiting writers and meet with me for one-on-one for feedback on your work.
