Description

WARNING: THIS CLASS IS A POETRY PRODUCTION STUDIO & WILL NOT BE RUN AS A TRADITIONAL WRITING WORKSHOP

This class will model itself on fine arts studio classes. This means that we will devote the majority of class time to MAKING POEMS rather than critiquing poems. Students should come prepared to write. Exercises will include imitations of class reading assignments, collaborative works, and performance poetry. The class aims to equip poets with the skills necessary to develop writing projects independently and playfully long after the semester is over. Grades will be based on class participation (showing up and playing along) and the completion of all assignments in the form of a final portfolio.

Please note: In order to be in close proximity to other working artists and the museum, this class will meet at the art school. In order to accommodate travel time from Park Hall to Lamar Dodd, the weekly meeting time will be adjusted by 15 minutes, so that class will begin at 3:45 and end at 6:30.
