Course Instructor Days Times Room

In addition to providing an overview of modern American nature writing, this course will include narratives that combine nature writing with memoir with texts such as Janisse Ray's Ecology of a Cracker Childhood (2000), Drew Lanham's The Home Place: Memoirs of a Colored Man’s Love Affair with Nature (2016) and Lauret Savoy's Trace: Memory, History, Race, and the American Landscape (2015). The class will be discussion-based and will include the opportunity for students to do some of their own nature writing. The course will also have a few field trips to places such as Lake Herrick, Hargrett Library's archives, and UGA's Natural History Museum.
