Description

This class will begin with Anne Bradstreet’s poems from 1650 and end with Charles Brockden Brown’s novel Edgar Huntly Or, Memoirs of a Sleepwalker (1799). In between we will read Mary Rowlandson’s Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, John Woolman’s Journal, Crevecoeur’s Letters from an American Farmer, Equiano’s Interesting Narrative, Benjamin Franklin’s Autobiography, William Bartram’s Travels, and Susanna Rowson’s Charlotte Temple. Grades will be based upon a mid-term and final exam, as well as four short reading response papers. Exact Titles and ISBN numbers will be posted here later in the semester.
