Topics Title
The Civil Rights Movement in American Literature and Culture
Description

This class will focus on the exciting literary and cultural output of the long Civil Rights Movement in the United States from the era of Jim Crow through the Black Power Movement.  I have organized the arc of the class into four sections featuring 1) fiction and poetry, 2) graphic novels, 3) social documentaries, and 4) a final module in which you will apply what you have learned by presenting an analysis of primary documents (from the Special Collections Libraries) to the class.  I will assign an in-class essay midterm and a take-home essay final, and 2-3 short essays.  I will post a ist of assigned readings and documentaries later this semester.
