- Folk Narrative
The girl who cooked her insides, the hero who sleeps in a cave until needed, the girl who kissed a frog. This course will survey various genres of folk narrative, including historical legend, contemporary legend, personal experience narrative, and folktale, with attention to their composition and function as well as theoretical approaches to their study. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the narratives in both their full cultural context and the individual narrator's personal context. Students will be expected to do fieldwork.
